Day 56 – Perth to Margaret River

What a difference one day makes in the weather stakes. After a very hot day yesterday, today we saw our first rain in over two months, and the weather turned quite cool, and we had to dig through the tubs in the car to find our jackets. Only 18 degrees today!

As we headed out of Perth, we mulled over all the wonderful things we had seen, and the people we had met here. A great visit to this lovely city.
Next up, we headed south calling in briefly at Busselton for a quick look at the very long jetty. After some lunch, it was off to Margaret River, where we parked the van at an amazing out of town (by 7km) caravan park on a farm. The Big Valley caravan park is part of a working farm, set in the rolling green hills, and pretty forest area near the large tourist town of Margaret River. When we arrived the owners/farmers instantly invited the kids to come and help feed the baby lamb and pet piglet, and have a pat of the baby emu. They all sleep together, huddled up in a barn pen. Very cute!

Sam and Lily made some instant friends with about 10 other kids (funnily enough all Victorians on a big lap of their own – from Kyabram, Eltham and Belgrave), so a cricket match was born!

On the way to the caravan park we called in at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory (love those free samples), and various other nougat, coffee, olive and other produce outlets.

The MR cheese factory was a particular favourite, and we couldn’t resist buying some lovely brie and a pepper mozzarella. Yum!

We also stopped off at the tiny town of Cowaramup, laughing at all the metal cow sculptures in the main street!
