A big day today, the day we move out of our current home at 3
Kenthill Court, Sunbury. After 3 ½ years of enjoying the house we designed and
built (changing the design of a kit home – Harkaway Homes), it was time to pack
ourselves up, and hit the road on a three month holiday around Australia.
After a final walk around, last minute clean and vacuum, and
after saying goodbye to our lovely neighbours, we made the final preparations
packing up the car, and caravan. We
recently purchased a new car for our journey (a Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander
4WD) which Brendan has decked out with electric brakes, and all the latest
gadgets, and carefully tested the power to the van, and the weight ratio on the
tow bar, etc. The caravan has been stacked to the rafters with everything we
need, so are ready to hit the road. (Those
of you who know Brendan well, may know of his ability to pack a whole lot of
stuff into tight places likes a well pieced jigsaw).
We purchased the caravan
last November (Coronet Farren), and we have completed quite a few happy
weekends around Victoria in it over the last few months. We jokingly refer to
it as “the Tardis”. Although only 14ft in length when folded down and in, it
has beds that pop out either end in a matter of seconds, and also a double bunk
inside. Complete with a good sized fridge, microwave, hot plates and grill we
think we have everything we need. Although, we are taking the thermomix too for
good measure! Luxury!
So we finally headed off at 9.30am, with Sam (aged 11) and
Lily (aged 8) looking forward to a family camping adventure of a lifetime. Three
months off school – what child wouldn’t be happy with that? Our destination on
our first night is Mildura – a 6 hour journey of about 500kms. We are looking
forward to staying with our fellow adoptive Korean family friends, the
Stewarts. Our kids have a lovely friendship with their kids – Seb aged almost
11, and Zoe 7 and they are eagerly looking forward to spending some time with
them at their home.
After a long day of driving, via Charlton, Sea Lake, and
Ouyen, we pulled up in front of the Stewarts at about 3.30pm. It was terrific
to catch up with them again. We are lucky enough to spend a few days each year
at various camping spots around the state with about 8 Korean adoptive families
who have children around the same age, and treasure our easy friendships with
each other.
After a lovely homecooked meal (thanks Robyn!), and a
lengthy chat, we settled ourselves in (inside the house) for a good nights
sleep.
Looking forward to following your journey on your blog!
ReplyDeleteWe too own a sante fe that tows a van with pull out beds (ours is a jayco hawk!) and we have had many wonderful family adventures, although never a 3 month trip! Great idea packing the thermie! That'll make dinners soooo much easier!
Hi Brendan & Michele.
ReplyDeleteI meant to send you a good trip message before you left on Saturday. Got caught up cleaning out my LCRR.room. Doubt we will meet up at Katherine LOL. Have a great trip, stay safe and bring back lots of cool memories.
